Meifu Shinkage-ryū (MSR) is a modern Japanese Martial Art. The techniques taught are part of an almost forgotten skill-set, going back to some of the warrior arts of the samurai and ninja of ancient Japan. If you always wanted to learn how to throw the Japanese throwing nail, you have come to the right address.
All training groups connected to Meifu Shinkage Ryu Canada are not-for-profit. This means that the training fee only needs to cover the cost of training including space rent, and travel expenses of the group leader. The training fee also depends on the number of times that training occurs. In general, Meifu Shinkage Ryu Canada asks for a training fee of CAD 100 per month per member. If space rental and travel fees exceed the collective membership fee, members mutually agree to cover the additional costs.
The current headmaster (Soke) of Meifu Shinkage Ryu Yasuyuki Otsuka-Sensei once mentioned that Someya-sensei was a physician who provided unrivaled care to his patients. In addition, Someya-sensei wanted to create training methods that were safe. He perfected the use of the training weapons in Meifu Shinkage Ryu. Otsuka-Sensei build upon this principle and developed safe training weapon alternatives to enhance the safety of members. Meifu Shinkage Ryu is proud to report that no member has been seriously injured since the inception of the martial art.
MSR Canada members have to opportunity to participate in examinations. Passing an exam successfully entitles participants to gain rank registration with the Meifu Shinkage Ryu head quarters in Japan. There are 5 student levels as well as 4 black belt levels in Meifu Shinkage Ryu.
We do in-person keiko on Friday evening, and online remote classes on Sunday mornings.
